Michael Fairclough

Donegal

"When I was a student in Ireland I used to go up to Bloody Foreland on the Donegal coast. I recall the immense skies, the sense of isolation, the powerful presence of the sea and the contours of the rocky coastline. Michael has captured this, caught the changing moods of light and weather, the sense of drama in the place. Yet the pictures are very personal, charting a difficult journey he has undertaken, rising to the self-imposed challenge of adding a new dimension to his painting."
Peter Osborne, Berkeley Square Gallery, 2000
